Innovative remote-sensing solutions in the service of nature conservation and sustainability
The High Resolution Aerial Monitoring Network (HRAMN) was established to bring spatial-data collection into a shared methodological framework, thereby making the current condition and changes of natural areas traceable. In this way, HRAMN acts as a modern ecological observation system, combining state-of-the-art aerial remote sensing with classical field research.
The network was established to monitor the ecosystem services of natural and landscape values, near-natural areas and areas shaped by humans (anthropogenic areas). We provide researchers with orthophotos, surface models, point clouds, habitat maps and field observations in an economical, productive and well-organised structure.
HRAMN is therefore not merely a collection, but a professionally maintained long-term framework for understanding and preserving natural and cultural values, protecting the landscape and using it responsibly.
The surveys are carried out in relatively small areas (1.5–700 ha) that nevertheless represent the surrounding landscape excellently. The essence of the technology applied is a completely non-disturbing procedure.
Thanks to our proprietary methodology, flights are conducted at predefined and recommended altitudes. This guarantees that the surveys cause no detectable disturbance to habitats and, despite the large number of survey cycles, do not endanger the organisms present at the survey site.
The network provides statistically comparable, consistent databases (with land-cover, land-use, habitat, soil, hydrological and forestry data) whose structure can be read precisely by artificial intelligence, thus opening the way to Big Data analysis.
HRAMN’s high-resolution time series are ideally suited to validating lower-resolution satellite images, support urban-development modelling by filtering anomalies, and provide direct input data for the nationwide Ecosystem Base Map (NÖSZTÉP project).
Free access and free publication are cornerstones of the network’s operation, through which we aim to support researchers and field surveyors in their independent work and make it more effective.
